"Put yourself in their shoes."

I'm sure this is a saying more often heard than not, meaning to try to understand how the other person is seeing or feeling things. It's to empathise or at least get an idea of another's point of view - something very important when it comes to interacting with others, and social intelligence (also known as interpersonal skills).

It's quite popular phrase used by our teachers (teachers as in people who teach us - so literally anyone if you consider it). It can be similar to the 'if you went through that, how would you feel?' sort of thinking... "If I went through that, I would feel that too..." or something along those lines.
