"Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.” - Lao Tzu

To be a prisoner is to be confined by some means. In this case, it is social pressure... specifically, indirect social pressure - pressure that is ultimately applied to yourself by you.

It's natural to look at others and see their perks and not-so perks. Particularly for those people-pleasers (me not excepted, too), it's natural to want to give from your cup. This isn't a bad thing. What is a bad thing is pouring an unjust amount; don't forget that our glasses are needed to be filled too - not only for the sake of having the ability to take care of others, but especially for our own living being.

What does it mean to care about what other people think? Yes, it gives us a guide - according to people like Tony Robbins, we are an average of the people around us. In other words, we have an idea where we are in comparison, which can give us an idea of where to go. On the contrary, it can be applied with the idea that we aren't good enough - in a negative, fearful way - this is what we want to avoid getting caught in.

Prisoner to what we confine ourselves by... what are we going to do?
